The Only Law

Red people worked in pens
Black people worked in chains
They branded us with colour
They gave us foreign names

They think they own our bodies
They think they own our lands
They take our children from us
They rip them from our hands

And then for education
They give us theirs instead
We learn of subjugation
We learn to bow our head

And generations taken
Grown cycles of abuse
We pray for liberation
They give only a truce

But promises still broken
And laws are broken too
It seems the only law to them
Is one: that they own you.
